The excavations carried out by the British School at Athens at Emporio (1952-1955) headed by archaeologist John Boardman, brought to light the remains of an Early Bronze Age installation on the small peninsula south of the harbor, and the remains of the early historic settlement on the 240 m high, Prophetis Elias hill.<\/p>\n
