The Ministry of Culture and Sports, in order to promote natural and cultural heritage, is organizing the exposition \u201cEnvironment and Culture\u201d around Greece; this year\u2019s theme is fire. The title \u201cThe glow of creative fire – Glorious stories of fire\u201d is inspired by the tragedy Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus, and the relevant quote that eloquently describes the nature of fire that endowes mankind with power, knowledge, art and culture.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the \u201cEnvironment and Culture\u201d exposition, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios is organizing a temporary exhibition with the title \u201cLighting sources from Antiquity to the 19th<\/sup> century in the collections of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios\u201d, in the \u201cGiustiniani Palace\u201d in the Castle of Chios; the exhibition will be open for one year. The archaeological finds on display are related to light as a timeless symbol of fire, and come from the collections of the Archaeological and the Byzantine Museums of the Ephorate. The exhibition includes a copper oil-lamp from a private collection that was graciously lended to complement the other exhibits.<\/p>\n
