The permanent exhibition of the Byzantine Museum of Chios is housed in the Ottoman mosque (Mecidiye Mosque, mid- 19th century) which was restored under the Third European Community Partnership Framework Agreement (2000-2006) with funding from the North Aegean Regional Operational Program. The project was carried out with the own means of the 3rd Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, which was then responsible for the Byzantine and post-Byzantine museum of Chios.
