24 Oct CULTURAL HERITAGE AND EDUCATION – LIFELONG LEARNING – DIGITAL ACCESS TO THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF CHIOS

European Cultural Heritage Days are an institution in which Greece participates since 1996, fully endorsing its intent and purposes. The Council of Europe centrally coordinates the program of events, with the primary aim being the improvement of public access to their cultural heritage, material and immaterial, and public awareness of its issues, by opening up spaces and museums to the community and by organizing events.
The appearance of the COVID-19 pandemic in the international community imposed sweeping changes to everyday life, and placed digital technology at the forefront for the very first time. The Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios, adjusting to the new conditions shaped by the pandemic, is participating in the European Cultural Heritage Days 2020 with the theme “Cultural Heritage and Education – Lifelong learning” and the event “Digital access to the archaeological sites of Chios”, by enriching its digital material and promoting public access to it. Through its home site, the Ephorate promotes the island’s history, by highlighting the work carried out in the last twenty years through digital multimedia.
