25 Oct EUROPEAN DAY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION
The European Day of Cultural Heritage Conservation was celebrated this year for the first time, on Sunday October 14th 2018, and aimed to highlight the science of conservation and its contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage.
The Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios is participating in the celebration on Thursday October 18th, 9:00-14:00 by opening its workshops and introducing the general public to the unseen work carried out by conservators.
Inside the Conservation Workshop of the Ephorate in the Frangomachalas district (Osmaniye Mosque) visitors, yound and old, will become acquainted with the secrets of pottery conservation, guided by Ephorate conservators Vasilis Agiannidis and Konstantina Kandali.
At the same time, taking advantage of the exhibition “Recent acquisitions of the Museums of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios 2014-2018” in the “Giustiniani Palace” temporary exhibition building, Ephorate conservators will focus on the conservation process of the artifacts on display in the exhibition.
