25 Oct EUROPEAN MUSIC DAY 2015 CONCERT IN THE COURTYARD OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF CHIOS
The European Music day was first celebrated in Paris in 1982, on the initiative of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture of France, and in 1985 it was established as an institution to be held outside France as well. Athens, as Cultural Capital of Europe 1985, was the first city outside France where the Festival of Music was held.
Within a few years, the Music Day evolved into a major cultural event that is held every 21st of June in more than 22 countries. Musicians congregate in public spaces, streets, squares, parks and stations and hold concerts in all kinds of music free of charge. This year, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios and the Music School of Chios will celebrate the European Music Day on Sunday June 21st, at 20:30, in the courtyard of the Byzantine Museum. Small music ensembles of students of the Music School of Chios will perform in the event.
