24 Oct INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2017 MUSEUMS AND CONTROVERSIAL STORIES
The 18th of May is devoted to a special subject, different each time, related to museums and the protection of cultural heritage in general. For 2017, the International Museum Day focuses on the theme “Museums and controversial stories. Museums discuss that which cannot be said”. On Thursday May 18th 2017, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios participates in the International Museum Day 2017 by organizing cultural events for high school students.
The special theme of these events will be that which most of us fear most, so that even its name is avoided: death or “our common debt” in more poetic words, which no one can avoid. Museums will help us take a step towards reconciliation. This will be done via thematic guided tours by archaeologists of the Ephortae of Antiquities of Chios Despoina Tsardaka and Maria Finfini at the Archaeological Museum of Chios, and Parisianthi Valakou, Anna Misailidou and Stella Faitaki at the Byzantine Museum of Chios on Thursday May 18th 2017, between 9:00 and 13:00.
On this day, admission to the Museums and archaeological sites of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios will be free of charge for the public.
