AUGUST FULL MOON 2017

As every year, the Ministry of Culture and Sports will celebrate the August Full Moon with special events in archaeological sites, monuments and museums across Greece.

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios, wil participate in the celebration on Monday August 7^th 2017 by opening the following sites to the public:

Byzantine Museum of Chios (Mecidiye Mosque) in Vounaki Square in the city of Chios

Giustiniani Palace and Dark Prison in the Castle of Chios

Ottoman Bath in the Castle of Chios. Opening of temporary photography exhibition “OLKAS II. Traveling to and from Byzantium. Medieval ports from the Black Sea to the Eastern Mediterranean”.

Archaeological site of Emporio: guided tours of the early historic era settlement by archaeologists of the Ephorate. Tours will start at 19:00 and 19:15 at the entrance. The site will be open from 18:30 to 24:00.

On the rampart walk of the sea walls of the Castle of Chios, visitors will have the chance to gaze at the Moon using telescopes provided by the 6^th Astronomy Festival of Chios. All Ephorate sites, except Emporio, will be open to the public from 21:00 to 00:30; admission free of charge.
