RECREATING BY RECYCLING

RECREATING BY RECYCLING

Recycling is presented through art and sensory education.

This initiative by six art teachers in cooperation with the Association of Educational Art Courses and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chios, will organize a student art exhibition with the subject”Recreating by recycling” in the Ottoman Bath in the Castle of Chios.

Through this artistic event we explored the possibilities and processes involved in reusing recyclable materials. Through this experienta approach the students were taught to respect the environment, and to reevaluate their general behavior and stance towards life.

Recycling through art aims to cultivate the imagination, and at the same time entertain and enforce experiential action by utilizing materials that would otherwise end up as garbage. Upon completion, this whole process is presented to the general public.

The students displayed a positive attitude towards the reuse of materials, and experienced thrill, amusement and joy through artistic expression by creating images and performances that had the power to arouse and stir the emotions.

The participants of the exhibition include Maria Milioti with the Chios Workshop of Special Professional Education and the Chios Unified Special Professional High School, Maria Kasapidou with Kallimasia High School and the Chios Music High School, Giorgos Gerontidis with the 1st Primary School of Vrondados, Agios Georgios, the 3rd Primary School Agios Markos, and 9th Karradeio Primary School, Angeliki Makri with the Primary School of Nenita, the Primary School of Kallimasia and the Primary School of Pyrgi, Konstantina Kaltsouni with the Primary School of Volissos and the Primary School of Lithi, and Panagiota Makri Papanikolaou with the 5th Primary School of Varvasi and the 9th Karradeio Primary School.
