RECENT ACQUISITIONS OF THE MUSEUMS OF THE EPHORATE OF ANTIQUITIES OF CHIOS

The new exhibition housed in the Giustiniani Palace is dedicated to recent acquisitions of the two public Museums of Chios, the Archaeological and Byzantine Museums, with a focus on the artifacts handed-over, donated or confiscated by the Coast Guard or the Police of Chios. Approximately 30 artifacts, dated from early antiquity to the last centuries of Ottoman rule, and which include all sorts of portable monuments (protected under Archaeological Law n. 3028/2002 “On the protection of monuments and cultural heritage in general”), were collected. A short chronicle of the establishment and function of the Museum in Chios since the late 19th century, when the island was still under Ottoman rule, until today, was also included in the exhibition.

Opening hours daily except Monday, 8:00 to 15:00; tickets 2€.
